About the Triple C Ranch and Dismal Swamp

The 40-acre Triple C Ranch is located in the heart of the Dismal Swamp Conservation Area, approximately 1,200 acres of environmentally sensitive wetlands, upland forest and meadows.  One of the last horse farms in Middlesex County, the Triple C had fallen into considerable disrepair by the time EWA got involved.   EWA purchased the farm from Christopher C. Christensen in April 2001.

A natural oasis, the Dismal Swamp spans portions of Edison, Metuchen and South Plainfield.  It is the largest natural wildlife refuge in densely populated northern Middlesex County.  The Dismal Swamp provides natural flood control and cleans our air, and its wetlands clean and purify our water.  The swamp is home to over 180 species of birds, as well as many mammals, amphibians, and reptile species. *Click here to see all the animals at the Triple C Ranch*

Our Vision for the Triple C Ranch

Restoration of the Triple C Ranch

EWA has rehabilitated the old barn, and restored the chicken coop and a shelter for our eight goats.  We are developing plans for an expanded nature center and currently offer environmental education, recreational activities and events, and community programs. Best of all, a pony is back at the Triple C Ranch!

Field Trips

Environmental Education

EWA’s Environmental Education program fosters a love of the outdoors, environmental awareness and responsibility among scout troops, photography and art courses, science classes, seniors groups, and church groups.  EWA leads frequent eco-tours of the Dismal Swamp Conservation Area for the general public, and offers students science activities including environmental scavenger hunts, aquatic macro-invertebrate analysis and wildlife surveys.  EWA is also working with the Township of Edison to create a regional camp center within the Dismal Swamp for schoolchildren across the state.

Dusk Hike

Recreational opportunities at the Triple C Ranch include hiking, bird-watching, stargazing, youth fishing, wildlife photography, visiting our farm animals, and just enjoying the great outdoors.  Horseback riding will return to the Triple C Ranch soon.  For hikers, the Ranch will also connect with the proposed Middlesex Greenway recreational walking trail.
